An ice cream launch unlike any other.
To help promote the premiere of Netflix’s “Space Force,” Ben & Jerry’s was launching a new ice cream flavor inspired by the show. We created a series of content and a major stunt to promote both the series and the space-inspired ice cream.
Our campaign focused on Astro-botanist Dr. Chan Kaifang from the series (played by Jimmy O. Yang). Inspired by the myriad of ridiculous requests made of the scientists in the show, our premise was that Dr. Chan had been tasked with a new challenge from the heads of Space Force—invent a better astronaut ice cream.
This was conceived before COVID but quickly pivoted to become a remote shoot production in which we show Dr. Chan through a series of digital log entries while he undergoes successes and failures throughout his quest.
As part of the campaign, we also pitched the idea of actually sending a pint of the ice cream to space. Ben & Jerry’s worked with directly with a company in the UK to develop the idea and actually do it, taking the idea of a launch stunt to a new heights. The film for the launch to space is below.
